Melbourne Spa and Experience Deals β€” Day Spas from $39, Yarra Valley Tours from $79, and Free Art Galleries

Yarra Valley wine tours, Great Ocean Road trips, free galleries, and spa deals from $39.

Melbourne's one of those cities where the best experiences are either completely free or available at massive discounts if you know where to look. The NGV? Free. State Library? Free. Royal Botanic Gardens? Free. Then there's the Yarra Valley (wine tours from $79 on deal platforms), Great Ocean Road trips, spa deals from $39, and Eureka Skydeck for $26. We've done most of these and the value is genuinely hard to beat.

This guide covers what's worth paying for, what's free, and where to find the discounts.

Melbourne spa deals start lower than Sydney β€” we've seen 60-minute massages from $39, which is borderline unbelievable. We've had mostly great experiences but always check the Google reviews of the specific venue before buying. A couple of the ultra-cheap ones have been a bit average.

6 Melbourne Experiences Worth the Money

Yarra Valley Wine Tour

Bus from Melbourne CBD + 4–5 wineries + lunch + chocolate factory. Deal platforms typically $79–$119 pp (normally $140–$180). Full day, 1hr from CBD. Domaine Chandon, Yering Station, Healesville. We did this last autumn and it was one of the best day trips we've done in Victoria.

Great Ocean Road Day Trip

Bus from Melbourne + 12 Apostles + rainforest walk + lunch. Deal platforms $89–$119 pp (normally $140–$180). It's a long day (~4hr drive each way) but the 12 Apostles are worth seeing once. Honestly, the drive itself is half the experience.

MCG Tour

Behind-the-scenes at Australia's most famous stadium. $35 adult. Occasionally small discounts on deal platforms. If you're into cricket or AFL, don't skip this β€” standing on the hallowed turf is genuinely special. Non-sports fans might find it less compelling.

SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium

South Bank location. ~30% off via Groupon vs gate price. The penguin exhibit is the highlight. Combine with a walk along the Yarra. Good rainy day activity β€” and Melbourne has plenty of those.

Melbourne Street Art Tour

Guided walks through Hosier Lane, ACDC Lane, Blender Studios. $25–$39 pp. Or do it yourself for free β€” Hosier Lane is open 24/7 and the art changes weekly. The guided tours add context and take you to spots you wouldn't find alone.

Eureka Skydeck

Level 88 observation deck. $26 adult, β€œThe Edge” glass cube $15 extra. Deal platforms occasionally discount. Best at sunset β€” watching the city lights come on from 300 metres up is something else. The Edge is terrifying in the best way.

Rolling vineyard hills with grapevines stretching toward distant mountains

Yarra Valley β€” about an hour from Melbourne CBD. The Groupon/Scoopon tour packages ($79–$119) include transport, 4–5 wineries, and lunch. Best in autumn when the vines are turning.

Free Melbourne β€” Seriously, All Free

Melbourne has more free world-class experiences than any other Australian city. This isn't some tourism board spin β€” the NGV alone would cost $25+ to enter in most international cities. Here it's free. Always has been.

National Gallery of Victoria (NGV): Free permanent collection. One of Australia's best art galleries. The international collection at NGV International (St Kilda Rd) and the Australian collection at The Ian Potter Centre (Federation Square) are both free. The special exhibitions are ticketed but the permanent stuff could occupy you for hours.

State Library of Victoria: Free. The La Trobe Reading Room is one of the most beautiful rooms in Australia β€” octagonal, domed, and utterly stunning. Worth visiting even if you have no intention of reading anything.

Royal Botanic Gardens: Free entry. 38 hectares in the middle of the city. Bring a picnic, find a spot by the lake. Perfect afternoon.

Hosier Lane Street Art: Free, iconic, changes weekly. Melbourne's most photographed laneway. Go early morning for photos without crowds.

Fitzroy & Carlton Gardens: Free. Heritage-listed gardens, the Royal Exhibition Building, fountains. Good for a morning walk.

Spa treatment room with warm towels and calming essential oils

Melbourne spa deals from $39 on Groupon. We've found the mid-range options ($69–$99) tend to be the sweet spot β€” cheap enough to not hurt, nice enough to feel like a proper treat.

The Smart Approach

If we were planning a weekend in Melbourne for someone who'd never been: Saturday morning at Queen Vic Market, afternoon at the NGV (free), evening Groupon dinner on Southbank. Sunday: Yarra Valley wine tour on a deal platform ($79–$119). Total for two days of genuinely excellent experiences: under $200 per person, including a wine tour. Try doing that in Sydney.

Hosier Lane β€” Melbourne's most famous street art laneway. Free to visit, changes constantly. Best photos are early morning before the tourist crowds arrive (before 9am on weekdays).
